Generator Power and Control Section
The microprocessor-based engine-generator control and management package is designed for use with an automatic voltage regulator and a speed control to automate and protect diesel or gas engine based generator sets. Designed for small to medium size generator sets, the ASCO control system can be configured to operate stand-alone or with utility paralleled sets. A network of controls are capable of controlling up to ten unmanned generator sets for base-load, peak shaving or backup power generation.

An individual section for each engine generator set is provided. The complete package is designed to not only control and protect the engine-generator but to integrate the power into a complete and functional system.

ASCO's generator control section consists of all the necessary AC metering, annunciators and control circuitry necessary to automatically start, stop and parallel an engine generator to the bus. A programmable, microprocessor based design is used for the controls system. This allows the controls system to be designed according to specific customer needs.

  • ASCO utilizes vacuum type draw-out breakers to parallel the generator to the emergency bus. All available circuit breaker ampacities can be accommodated.
  • An annunciator system is provided in every generator section. The annunciator contains LED's indicating pre-alarms, engine generator alarms and shutdowns as well as generator and breaker status.
  • Metering of the generator section can be provided in digital, analog format or a combination of the two. The meters are generally digital with option for analog 4.5" in diameter, RMS, and have a minimum 1% accuracy rating.
  • Use of ASCO's Digital Power Manager allows both paralleling bus metering and digital data monitoring as well as true RMS measurement. Numerous types of voltage, current, frequency and voltage parameters can both be displayed and logged. In addition the ASCO Digital Power Manager has several programmable device protective relaying functions including: under frequency, under voltage, reverse VAR, reverse power, negative phase sequence, negative phase rotation, and directional over current sensing.
  • Manual control of the generator section is also available. Typical manual controls include an engine control switch, automatic synchronizer control switch and a fail to sync reset push button
  • Segregated system controls are optional. The control sections are hard wired to the breaker from the remote location. This allows the system to be operated remotely without having to sacrifice the reliability of having it wired directly to the generator and breaker.
  • The ASCO control system can be configured to operate in stand-alone or utility-paralleled sets. A network of controls is capable of controlling up to ten unmanned generator sets for base-load, peak shaving or backup power generation.
